Something New Will Emerge

For what seemed like forever a tree in the line of sight from our kitchen window had big, beautiful, bell-shaped yellow flowers dangling from it. I always got a little dose of delight glancing at it as I did dishes.

And despite my logical mind knowing that of course no doubt at some point those flowers would fade, I’d gotten kind of attached to them. My mind fell for the delusional notion (as minds often do) on some level that maybe this one thing would stay the same forever.

Then one day, seemingly overnight, the flowers were gone.

But while I felt a twinge of sadness at looking out and noting their disappearance, the sadness didn’t last long.

Because I noticed that the maple tree directly next to the yellow bell flower tree’s leaves had burst, again seemingly overnight, into a vibrant, deep burgundy hue.

It was impossible to stay sad about the loss of the yellow flowers when this fresh burst of life-affirming color had entered the scene.

Things change.

Life moves in seasons and cycles

Everything comes and goes.

The more we can stay connected to this reality, the less we suffer.

Less clinging and attachment, less resistance and pushing away, more enjoying what’s here while it’s here, savoring it all the more because we understand with eyes wide open that this season will invariably pass.

What season of life are you in right now?

A season in which things are thriving and blossoming?

A seed-planting season?

A quiet season where, despite how much things are germinating beneath the surface, it’s hard to trust that things will ever blossom into the light of day?

A season ripe with the “changing leaves” of transition and change?

No matter which season you’re in, you can trust that no matter how much your mind may believe to the contrary, something new will always emerge in the space where something “old” has faded away.

Here’s to riding the waves of the coming and going with as much grace and gratitude as possible along the way.

With Love,

Melissa
