45 Ways to Dial Up Joy In Your Life

When coaching clients come to me, they're often feeling overwhelmed.

They have an intuitive sense their life could be more joyful, but they're feeling stuck about how to change things.

Making major life changes can feel scary and complicated.

But the good news is, the simplest practices repeated with intention and attention can create profound positive ripple effects in our lives.

They're so simple, in fact, they could seem "too simple" to the cynical eye.

But when you commit wholeheartedly to them, these simple practices and perspectives can dial up the joy in your life in a major way.

  • Practice gratitude daily. Notice what's good within and around you.

  • Meditate.

  • Set intentions. They serve as North Stars toward creating the life experience you want to be having.

  • Doubt your doubt.

  • Follow your gut.

  • Choose your words mindfully.

  • Hold your goals in an open palm.

  • Adopt “It’s OK” as a mantra.

  • Laugh freely.

  • Practice generosity.

  • Celebrate uncertainty.

  • Notice and appreciate synchronicity.

  • Focus on what you want more of instead of what you want less of.

  • Rest when your body asks you to.

  • Celebrate your growth and successes, no matter how small they may seem.

  • Question your beliefs and assumptions.

  • Keep an eye out for unkind self-talk and commit 100% to letting it go as soon as you notice it.

  • Notice your emotions and allow them to arise and pass through.

  • Get grounded.

  • Do things you love unapologetically and often.

  • Surround yourself with people and things that make you feel good.

  • Soak in the good. Tune into micro-moments of fun, joy, kindness, beauty, generosity, compassion and connection.

  • Be willing to be wrong.

  • Drop from head to heart.

  • Savor your food.

  • Breathe with your full attention.

  • Own your strengths and gifts.

  • Accept compliments with gratitude.

  • Practice presence. Focus on being here with just this one moment, this one sensation, this one breath.

  • Fill yourself up with nourishing wisdom, teachers, podcasts, books, talks, etc.

  • Own your mistakes and make amends earnestly.

  • Listen to music you love and dance any time the impulse strikes.

  • Set aside (at least) 10 minutes of quiet time a day.

  • Recognize that all that you both adore and resist in others, you have within you too.

  • Use fear rather than resisting it.

  • Own your desires.

  • Ask for support when you need it.

  • Invite and embrace stillness.

  • Get excited when you don't know something.

  • Resist nothing.

  • Have faith that change is possible.

  • Slow down.

  • Thank your challenges as your teachers.

  • Trust yourself. Trust the process. Trust life.

What self-nurturing practices are you already in the habit of?

And what possibilities from this list call to you as practices you might want to place more front and center in your life?

Never underestimate the profound power of simple practices repeated regularly with intention and attention.

Lots of Love,

Melissa
